About the area
Douglassville sits in Amity Township, Berks County — along the Schuylkill River corridor and U.S. 422 between Reading and the greater Philadelphia suburbs. Amity is among the oldest townships in Berks County; its name reflects the historic “amity” between early Swedish settlers and local Native peoples. The original Swedish tract along the Schuylkill (early 1700s, under William Penn’s land grants) still roughly matches today’s township bounds.
